Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) began to settle the St. George area shortly after their arrival in Utah in the late 1840's. They were sent to set up a silk and cotton farming community in the warm desert climate. Brigham Young soon built a winter home here, and the oldest continuously operating temple in the church was dedicated in this city as well.

The population of St. George is still mostly Mormon today. Many who live here are descended from those original pioneers who founded the city.

How long did it take the Mormons to get statehood?

"Mormons" are not a state, they are a religion. The Mormons have never been granted statehood, and doing so now would be near impossible as Mormons are scattered all over the globe and come from many different nations. The Mormons did once apply for statehood with the state of Deseret, a large area that covered much of what is now Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada. This was not granted by the federal government, who instead drew the state borders we have today. Mormons are credited with postponing Utah's statehood with their practice of polygamy. Mormons abandoned polygamy in 1890, and Utah was finally granted statehood in 1896.

How long does a blue Mormon live?

As a Mormon I have never heard of the term Blue Mormon. As to how long Mormons live, they live as long as is normal as for any non Mormons, unless the Lord calls them back for some special reason. This question was misplaced... the Blue Mormon is a type of butterfly. But I'm not sure of the lifespan.
