Since the late '80s I have have personally known two old Jewish women Sara Joseph and her sister Rachel who used to live on Abdullah Haroon Road, just above an electronic goods market in Karachi. Some months ago I visited their place (May 2007) and was told they had passed away. They told me of the existence of another Jewish woman Rachel Joseph (not a relative of Sara and her sister) but one who was related to the synagogue's last custodian in Karachi. I visited Rachel in the mid-90s. She was not allowed to speak freely to me, possibly because her husband feared for her life and did not want anybody to know she was Jewish.

These three elerly women identified themselves as Cochin Jews. They did not know anybody else who was a Jew in the city or country. However, I know there are more Jews, between 50 and 100, who are living in Karachi amidst Zoroastrians. They are pretty indistinguishable from Parsis (Zoroastrians) and speak the Gujrati language.
