How many children go to school in Scotland?

Scotland isn't a poor country and by law every child must go to school. I am sure there must be some home schooled pupils. Most schools in Scotland are free so even if the family is poor they can manage to get their child education and not go to prison.

Probably 3/4 of the children population go, and i would say theres about 2 million kids in the whole of scotland, so about... 1.5million? i know theres about a thousand pupils at my secondry school.

There are two nursery school years, the last being references as 'Pre-school'. There then follows seven years in Primary School, referenced P1 - P7, and then a minimum of four years at Senior School, referenced as S1 - S4. S4 is the year when the National Examinations N5 take place. If these are passed successfully, the student may apply to attend school for up to a further two years S5 and S6, when National Highers and Advanced Highers may be studied.
