"According to figures released by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (National Institute of Statistics), 18.6% of Menorca's population are foreigners, a percentage which has increased steadily over the last few years but the growth is now slowing down as a result of the economic climate. According to the report, Menorca has a population of 92,434, of which 71,896 are Spanish and 15,147 are foreigners (7,159 from within the European Union and 7,988 from non-E.U. countries). Immigrants accounted for 8.12% of schoolchildren in the 2008-2009 year according to data from the Observatorio Balear de la Inmigración (Balearic Immigration Observatory). In Menorca 12,507 of the 86,853 health cards issued were for foreigners, 14.4% of the total."
