A Student Visa in Australia will allow an international student to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week. Of course there are some international students who work more than this and often they will accept less than the minimum wage in order to be paid cash in the hand so that the authorities will not know. This means that some international students can be exploited by their employers and also if they are caught by the authorities breaking the rules of their visa then they can be deported.

Many international students work in retail (shops), service stations and convenience stores, some work as taxi drivers and some will work in cleaning or in restaurants. You must remember that these jobs may not pay a lot of money, maybe if you are from Nepal it might seem like a lot of money to you, but you must remember that Australia is an expensive place to live.

Most probably you will be living in a city like Sydney and Melbourne, the food, rent, costs of transport are all much more expensive than what you are used to paying. Your living and study expenses will eat away a lot of the money you make here. Many people want the student visa to Australia because they think it is a paradise where they can become rich, but the reality is that it is not so easy.
