In the thirteen colonies south of present-day Canada, dissenters were able to make the place ungovernable, as is their wont. God is determinedly opposed to all laws, it seems, of which He Himself is not the author. Even though two dissenters can seldom agree, they always know that they are right. That is what eventually led to their famous independence.

Sadly, dissenters continue to make the place ungovernable, even into the present day. The independence evidently has failed to improve the situation; the absence of a unifying king seems only to have made things worse. Success in destroying orderly government has never been known to turn a rabble into good, high-church Tories; it only whets their appetite for more chaos; and, so, we really should not be terribly surprised at all the noise and violence.

In the more northern colonies that now make up part of Canada, the influence of dissenters was much less. People consequently remained orderly, and things have worked out much more happily and peacefully for everyone.
