The first people living in Quebec were natives, or amerindians. When the french came inb Canada, they tend to be near of trade points and villages in order to get their hand on more furs, brought to them by the natives. The sites of Tadoussac, Québec and Montréal were choosen for exploration purposes: Tadoussac to get a rest from the sea and change boat to get to Québec, Québec to give rest to sailors and refurbish boats to go west, the same with Trois-Rivières, and Montréal as an end to water travel and the start of the foot exploration of the "pays d'en haut" and Louisiana. These were the four first cities of Qiebec: Tadoussac 1600, Quebec 1608, Trois-Rivières 1634 and Montreal 1642.
