No.

America is not a nation-state because it has no official religion or language (though English is the main language) and has people from all over the world, of all races and cultures.

However, if America is not a nation-state, then what is America and what is an example of a nation-state?

Nations are groups of peoples of a specific culture, religion, or ethnic background. They are not limited by boundaries and borders and are often spread among numerous countries. An example of a nation would be the Kurds or the Jews.

Country and state are synonymous terms that refer to a territory with defined boundaries, territories and governments. This definition would mean that America is a state made up of smaller states under a common government. A state/country does not have to have a specific nationality, culture, religion, language, or heritage - something which is exemplified by the diversity or religions, peoples, languages, and the like within America.

A nation-state is a country that has defined borders and territories, but is also made up mostly of a large, specific racial or cultural group. They tend to share a language, religion, or other prominent cultural trait. A country that is a nation-state would be Japan or France since they are made up largely of a specific group of people with defined history and culture.

For the reasons and because of the definitions listed above, the United States of America is not a nation-state or a nation, but a group of states under a common government.
