McAllen is safer than most US cities, according to a study done recently by Farmer's Insurance (McAllen placed in the top 12 safest cities in the entire country). It's Mexico that's having problems with violence. The drug people over there are killing each other, and sometimes innocent people get in the way and are hurt or killed also. It's a terrible situation. But the drug cartels aren't going to take on the US government, so all of that activity is limited to their side of the border. As a matter of fact, McAllen has seen a huge increase in Mexican Nationals moving over to be safe from their own country's troubles.
