Yes, but the distance is so long (1332 miles, or 2143 kilometers) that it would take you more than 1 day of non-stop driving to reach Mexico. Your best bet is to board a flight from either Miami or Orlando into Mexico.

Yes. You can buy a car new car in Mexico IF you have an FM2 or FM3 visa and can prove Mexican residency such as a gas, water, or light bill. People with tourist visas cannot buy any cars in Mexico. The car that you buy will be registered in Mexico and have Mexican license plates.

The price you pay for your new car will depend on whether the car was made in Mexico. For example, many Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, and Volkswagen cars are made in Mexico and usually cheaper that in the USA. Be aware that some models of these cars are only made and sold in Mexico and it may be impossible to find parts or obtain repairs in the USA. Your new car warranty will usually only be valid in Mexico. Other cars are imported, from other countries and are more expensive to buy, and can be difficult to maintain.

If you want to take our Mexican registered car back to the USA, you can only do so for short visits depending on the state you visit which is generally no more than 6 months. And if you stay too long in some states, the law might slap you with a fine and require you to take the car out.

You will need to buy insurance depending on which US state you cross into. Your Mexican insurance policy will not cover you in the USA. At the very least, you should have liability insurance for driving in the USA. This is best obtained in Mexico from your Mexican insurance agent where you live before you get to the border. You will need a "travelers insurance" policy that covers the USA. Most US insurance companies located in the USA don´t write any polices on any Mexican vehicle.

You will also probably NOT be allowed to sell this car in the USA because it will not meet US emissions and safety standards.

Gasoline and diesel fuel is subsidized by the government, so that lowers some cost for Mexico, in c comparison to the U.S. To show the relative difference in car cost between Mexico and the United States, look at car sales on the popular site Craigslist. A 2001 Honda Accord (basically same options, etc) sales on average for $5500 in Mexico City Mexico and $4000-$4500 in New York, NY. Once you compare gas prices, repairs, insurance, registration based on laws, and many other automobile costs there becomes an almost equal balance to owning a car in Mexico and the U.S.
