The cost of living is comparable to that of the USA. In 2002, Mercer Human Resource Consulting undertook research which indicated that, together with New Zealand, Australian cities are still the cheapest in which to live, but have the highest quality of living. Sydney (capital city of New South Wales) is the only one of Australia's cities which rates among the world's 100 most expensive cities, at 95.
