Labana is a trader and merchant community mostly are in North India. Most of followers are Sikhs, also include Hindus and very less Muslims. In brief, earlier they were transporters, loaders and carriers in land, rivers and Sea. Sikh Lobanas get in touch with Nanak and contributed later fifth Guru of Sikhism. In Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Sikh empire, slowly turn into agriculturists under Mahraja Ranjit Singh and mostly converted from Hindu to Sikhi. Most of Labana people migrated to India during Partition.

In India, It is categorized under "Other Backward Classes" (OBC) in Punjab, Haryana, Himanchal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh and Rajasthan.

In Punjab region, it was in "General" category before but with efforts of Sant Baba Prem Singh for betterment of community, such step was taken.
