Well it depends where in the city you are, what time of day and what you are doing. If you come as a tourist you may never see or hear anything strange or dangerous or maybe you are unlucky, get involved in a shootout and granade attacks in the streets, which is quite common these days (2010).

Lets say the probability you face violence or get involved involuntarily is much higher than in cities abroad of the same size. Ten years ago this city was much safer than comparable cities in the U.S. Now, scenarios have changed. People who don' t want to change (adapt) to the situation or nervous, frightened people should stay out of Monterrey.
