England is is about mid range with scores above average in Reading, Science and Mathematics on the PISA international scoring scheme. The USA scores higher in reading but lower in Science and Mathematics. The USA and England are below average in Mathematics.

Also bear in mind that the UK has three separate education systems, those of Scotland, Ireland and England and Wales, which you cannot compare.

Scotland for instance significantly outperformed both England and the USA in the PISA assesment systme.
