I have lived and eaten bananas in Tokyo for many years, and I am not aware of any banana issues at the current time. Bananas imported from South America and Taiwan are readily available and very cheap (about 150 yen for a bunch of 4 to 5) . At my local supermarket (Marusho) there are generally four or five different brands on sale. There have been a series of food scares in Japan recently (mostly involving food imported from China), but as far as I know no particular problems with bananas.
banana
Nothing. They just live in the banana bunch. It is the worker who cuts the banana bunch off the tree that has the problem. If bitten they die.

I have the same problem with bananas...I figured out that the skin on the banana is thinner when ripe so the banana absorbes the liquid in the skin...the skin of a banana can have pesticides on it so you may be allergic to the pesticides and not the actual banana. Just a theory.
