The city of Austin was named after Stephen F. Austin, who is known as the "Father of Texas." He played a key role in the colonization of Texas by bringing in American settlers to the region. The city was named in his honor when it was selected as the capital of the Republic of Texas in 1839.
I think Chattanooga was the only city that saw two major battles - if Chattanooga was classified as a city in 1863.
