Forever. There is a town named 'SANTA' in Idaho.
In the book it was a non-existent town in Idaho named Endora.
There is no town named Freedom, California.
Freedom is a town in Waldo County, Maine. Freedom Township is a township in Washtenaw County, Michigan. Freedom is a town in Carroll County, New Hampshire. Freedom is a town in Cattaraugus County, New York. Freedom is a town in Woods County, Oklahoma. Freedom is a town in Outagamie County, Wisconsin.
I believe you are referring to 'Meadow, Utah'. I could not find a town exactly 315 miles south of Idaho Falls, Idaho on I-15, but there is a town that is 316.7 miles south of Idaho Falls, Idaho named 'Meadow, Utah'. This is probably the town that you are referring to. Of course, that may vary according to how the distance is measured.
All the American states that have a town dubbed Star are Idaho and North Carolina. Michigan, Mississippi, and Texas also have unincorporated communities known as Star. There are also Star Townships located in Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

According to the information that I have, 'Picabo Street' is retired from skiing (after a bad skiing injury) and doesn't live in Idaho anymore. She is married and has 3 children and spends most of her time between homes in Park City, Utah and Alabama. There is a small town in Idaho named 'PICABO' (not after her) and in Ketchum, Idaho, there is a street named after her. Ironically, 'PICABO STREET'.There is also a ski run named after her at Sun Valley, Idaho.
Freedom is a town that straddles the Idaho-Wyoming border. I have kind of a cute story about it. In the late 1960s, there were MAYBE thirty residents in both sides of Freedom, fifteen on either side of the state line. Freedom has one street that's less than a quarter-mile long. The state legislature in Wyoming abolished dirt roads in populated places and appropriated a lot of money to pave all the dirt roads in towns. So, the road on the Wyoming side of the state line got paved. The paving contractor called the Idaho Department of Transportation while he was in town doing the work and asked if they wanted the Idaho side of the street paved. Idaho didn't feel it was worth the money to pave a street two families lived on, so for about 20 years the Wyoming side of the street was paved and the Idaho side was dirt. They finally did pave the street, but it stayed that way for a really long time...and the weird thing is, one lane a quarter-mile long would not have cost them very much to pave while the guy was there anyway.
