I'm sorry to have to say it's probably that it was the gangster capital of the USA in the early part of the 20th Century. However, it is also famous for it's advanced architecture and technology in the 19th Century when much of it's bordering regions were still living in the 'Wild West'. It is nicknamed the 'Windy City' because it is situated at a spot where many winds and breezes converge.
