the hijrat movement was an attempt of muslims of the sub-continent to migrate to Afghanistan in august 1920. About 18000 muslims left their homes, hearth and possessions.this hijrat, which means migration, was proposed by Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad and Maulana Abdul Bari to migrate from "Dar-ul-harb",i.e. a land under foreign rule and move to an islamic state. However, Afghanistan was not willing to allow them to enter afghanistan ,so, the muslims had no choice but to return. Many muslims died on their way back while the ones who survived, were homeless and penniless as they had sold most (or all of) their property.

The hijrat movement was a tragedy.
