It depends where in west Texas. I was reared in Midland and lived there many years. It is hot in the summer....95 to low hundreds. The humidity is more now than it used to be...it can be in the 50 to 60s. Most nights in the summer are beautiful and you may need a light wrap. They have snow and ice in winter but it is normally gone in a couple of days. The spring brings the wind..and occasional sand storms, esp. if it has been a dry winter. Most of west Texas has about the same weather but the farther north the cooler nights and winters. Lubbock has wonderful evenings. Plus they are about 10 degrees cooler in the p.m. and in the winter. The same goes for south of Midland/Odessa, it about 10 degrees warmer. I love west Texas, my husband does not.
THE WEST
Rainfall decreases as it moves from east to west in Texas due to the rain shadow effect caused by the Rocky Mountains. The mountains block moisture-laden air from reaching the western regions, creating drier conditions. This leads to a drier climate in areas west of the mountains.
No. Texas as wet and dry seasons. Texas is not wet all year long, and it is not dry all year long. It's the second biggest USA state, (after Alaska) and it has a varied climate, depending on where in the state you are. The climate toward the south west part of the state, is usually drier than the climate on the Gulf of Mexico.
