There are not 18 Midwestern states, there are only 12. They are North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. There are several other states that are sometimes referred to as Midwestern states (such as Oklahoma), but they technically are not.
