Micronesia is a wide area covering over one third of the Pacific Ocean.

There are several countries and territories. All together over 8000 Islands, over 1000 constantly inhabited. The principle - and independent - State Federation of Micronesia - still includes four separate member states: Yap, Truk (also Chuuk), Pohnpei and Kosrae. Two more: Palau and Marshal Islands originally were in the list of founding members, but decided to become separate countries. Other small countries are Nauru and Gilbert Islands. Part of the Caroline group are in dependence of the USA, like the Marianas. While the biggest island - Guam - is practically an additional State of the USA, somehow kept outside of the official list of States - somehow its more American than Boston, even got his own Statue of Liberty, just slightly smaller (ask the President why) Some smaller islands in the northwest belong to Japan, while in the Southwest, Indonesia has crept into some other small islands like the Atoll of Mapia.
