Jamaica is part of the Commonwealth of Nations, and as such, the Queen of Britain is the leader of Jamaica. She is represented on the island nation by a Governor-General, who appoints a Prime Minister. The Prime Minister then names a cabinet of ministers for day-to-day rule of Jamaica. Jamaica's parliament is elected every 5 years, and the Prime Minister comes from the party that holds the majority of Parliament.

This form of government is referred to as Constitutional Monarchy.
