Japan had a unique culture in the world and unfortunately, they are becoming very "western".

Some traditional Japanese entertainments were "Noh' which can be likened perhaps to Japanese Opera, 'Kabuki" which is Japanese theatre, Sumo Wrestling, viewing the "Sakura blossoms", viewing Zen gardens, eating and drinking in restaurants, the tea ceremony and horse racing.

Some less traditional past times would be the same as everybody else, television, reading, movies, walking, driving to the country, Chess, Baseball, golf.

As for the Western influence, watch the show "I survived a Japanese Game Show" and you will see.

Karaoke is also a very popular leisure activity enjoyed by many Japanese nation wide. This past time has been adopted by Western cultures as well, resulting in games such as SingStar for Playstation. In Japan, they have karaoke boxes, which is a room that can be rented for private use to sing karaoke with friends and family. There is also an option of singing in front of many people in a public pub or club.

Martial Arts are very common in Japan, with many people taking part in one or more of its forms. Karate and judo are very popular, especially after The Karate Kid movies. Other sports that are popular include kendo (fencing), kyudo (archery with a bamboo bow), and naginata (a curved sword fighting art originally taught to the women of warrior families).

There are many theme parks in Japan, including Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studies Japan. These theme parks are some of the best in the world and are a blend of Western and Japanese pop culture, with beloved characters from both cultures being showcased.
