The writting says "Republic of Honduras; free, self governing, and independent."

  • The two castle towers, represent former Spanish oppression, however said towers are overshadowed by the pyramid, that is supposed to be symbolic of the strength of the Honduran people.
  • The rainbow that goes from tower to tower, is symbolic of how Hondurans turned something bad, into something good, how, although starting life as a primitive peoples, they took from Spanish colonialism the civilizing influences, while still maintaining their identity.
  • The sun within the rainbow of course obviously means that it has a bright future,
  • The ocean is supposed to represent its role on the world stage because it was recognized, that with travel so readily available when Honduras reached its independence, that big or small, it would have a global role.
  • The arrows in the quiver represent that it saw its share of conflicts, but, that it has two flower bouquets, and only ONE quiver of arrows, is symbolic that Honduras has seen more peace than war.
  • The mines and little "farm" thing just below the ocean, between the mountains, are symbolic of the strong work ethic.
  • The mountains themselves paired with the trees, are symbolic of the country's topography.

I know all this, because I had to learn it in the second grade!
