"tachi" is usually tacked onto another word, indicating more than one. It is only used with words such as "watashi", "boku", etc.

For example, "Boku-tachi" is said by a male, and essentially means "My friends and I..." (That is of course assuming that the people he is with are friends. A lot of speaking Japanese is about context.)
