What factors enabled dictators like Hitler and Mussolini to gain control over Germany and Italy?

A Dictatorship can only be formed in a democratic country when there are severe problems that seem unsolvable. Here is what Benito Mussolini and his fascists took advantage of in order to gain power in Italy:

A. After World War One, Italy found itself in economic distress. Its already low standards of living declined further;

B. Ruinous inflation drove the prices of goods extremely high;

C. Taxes were applied to help pay for the costs of WW1;

D. There was a fear of Communism in Italy; and

E. The Italian government was weak. There was a lack of a democratic tradition in Italy.

Mussolini's fascists promised to solve all these problems, and by appealing to the peoples' desire for self esteem through nationalism, the fascists were able to gain control of Italy.
