There really aren't two regions that make up Northern Europe, as Northern Europe is one of the five regions of Europe itself. Northern Europe typically includes Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ireland, and the United Kingdom are sometimes included, although not usually. Northern Europe contains three geo-political-historical groups that all overlap: Fennoscandia: Finland, Norway, and Sweden (the Scandinavian Peninsula) Nordic Countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden (all Northern European countries) Scandinavia: Denmark, Norway, and Sweden
Europeans originated from the continent of Europe, which is located in the northern hemisphere. The population of Europe is made up of diverse ethnic groups with varying cultural backgrounds and languages.
Living in the middle colonies differed significantly from life in the northern colonies primarily due to economic and cultural diversity. The middle colonies, such as New York and Pennsylvania, had a mix of agriculture and commerce, fostering a more diverse population with various religious and ethnic groups, including Quakers, Dutch, and Germans. In contrast, the northern colonies, particularly New England, were more homogenous, focused on small-scale farming, fishing, and trade, and often had stricter Puritanical social norms. This diversity in the middle colonies led to a more tolerant and pluralistic society compared to the more rigid structures of the northern colonies.
Are you referring to Immigration to the US? The only period of time where immigration was dominated by Northern Europe was the mid-1800s. So after this time period (around 1880), the number of immigrants from Northern Europe dropped in percentage (not necessarily numbers as they were being overshadowed by other groups now). However, immigration from Northern Europe, and all of Europe mostly, to the US has decreased dramatically and is being wildly overshadowed by other ethnicities coming mainly from Latin America or the Far East.
The 13 colonies were divided into three groups. They were called the Southern Colonies, the Middle Colonies, and the New England Colonies.
