Before the English began establishing colonies in North America, Europe was experiencing significant social, political, and economic changes, including the rise of mercantilism and competition for overseas markets. The defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588 boosted English confidence and ambitions for overseas expansion. These factors combined spurred England to explore and ultimately colonize parts of North America.

In the 1770's is when Spain started taking over the European (french) colonies in North America. But, in 1750 it was France.
