In Chile, when a person dies, the cadaver is inspected immediately by Legal Health Institute (IML, Instituto Medico Legal), to determine the causes of his or her disease and as possible organ donor thru the State-based Universal System; which was implemented in 2009; unless, that he or she determined not to donate during his or her lifetime.

Once the cause of death is determined and registered, the cadaver is sent to the death's relatives for funerary services.

Even controversial, Euthanasia on humans is forbidden. Amid pro-animal rights protests, the Chilean government is known to incur on massive extermination of abandoned dogs.
