In Yugoslavia, when Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia attempted to break away there was a similar civil war in each case. When the Kurdish state attempted to break away from Turkey, it was met with extreme violence, and the same has been true in Russia (Chechnya) and Vietnam (South Vietnam) and Indonesia (Aceh, East Timor) and France (Algeria). King George was doing nothing beyond what any of the leaders of his time would do, and what most nations have done with breakaway areas even to this day.
