Kiandra is a ghost town of the Snowy Mountains. It's about 85km from Cooma, on the road heading north through the Snowys. Founded on gold discoveries in 1859 and the resultant goldrush, it is actually considered the birthplace of Australian skiing. The National Park and Wildlife Services took over the town in 1974, removing most of its buildings, but as you drive through, you can still see remnants of Kiandra's goldrush days.
