A landmark is a prominent or conspicuous object on land that serves as a guide, esp. to ships at sea or to travelers on a road; a distinguishing landscape feature marking a site or location. For example: The post office served as a landmark for locating the street to turn down.

A MAJOR landmark would be a famous landmark that an area is known for.

For example, in America, some are:

Mt. Rushmore (the carved statues of four US Presidents in a mountain) and the Crazy Horse memorial in South Dakota. The Crazy Horse memorial is a work in progress which when completed will be the largest sculpture in the world.

The White House in Washington D.C.

Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado

The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California.

The Space Needle in Seattle, Washington.
