The 19th amendment of the constitution of Ireland revised of articles 2 and 3 of the constitution. All people born in the land of Ireland were allowed to be part of the Irish Nation. Previously it was declared that the lands were part of a single 'national territory'.
This claim of a 'national territory' was controversial to many in Northern Ireland who had remained within the United Kingdom when Ireland split off from the UK in 1922.
