Mt. McKinley (also called Denali) is 20,320 ft (6,194 m) in elevation. It is considered the highest mountain in the U.S.

Mauna Kea (The Big Island), Hawaii is not only the tallest mountain in the US but the tallest in the world at over 10,000 m. (33.000 ft.) from base to summit. However most of it is under water. Its recognized elevation is 4,205 m (13,796 ft).

What is the tallest and highest are two different things. Some consider tallest as being measured from base to peak, which would include anything under water. Others only consider what is measured on dry land. Highest usually refers to elevation above sea level. See Sources and related links for further explanation and details.
