The French do not describe the riots as Parisian, as they did not happen in Paris proper, but only in the suburban area known here as "banlieue", the social housing zones around major towns. These areas concentrate a range of problems revolving mostly around Immigration and lack of integration into mainstream French society, unemployement, and crime. While girls (even coming from foreign backgrounds) perform correctly at school, there is a problem with young boys, fuelling an deep sense of social deprivation. That makes these areas very sensitive. The death of two teenagers who broke into an electrical facility while hiding from the police, triggered anger and the ensuing unrest.
