According to data I obtained in the early 1970s from the Met Office in Southampton, the lowest air temperature ever recorded in Southampton since 1901 was - 11.7 C in March 1909. For those interested, the following are the lowest recorded air temperatures in Southampton for each month, with the year/s of occurrence in brackets if stated: January - 10.6 C (1901 & 1963); February - 11.1 C; March - 11.7 C (1909); April - 3.3 C; May - 1.7 C; June 3.3.C; July 6.1 C; August 4.5.C; September 0.0 C; October - 3.9 C; November - 7.2C; December - 8.9C. I am uncertain whether more recent cold snaps have seen any of these temperatures exceeded but there hasn't been a "proper" Met Station in Southampton since the end of 1999.
