What is the difference between a modern ninja and an old fashion japonese ninja?

(this is based on the modern ninjas from comics, tv, and other thing of that nature)

A modern ninja is basixally a regular ninja, only lacking the spirituality. They wear (useally, they have more varaity) muscle shirt of dark colour. with metal sleeves, metal armor on the spine, kneecap, elbows, shins, ribs and other more sensitive places. They dont wear shoes, they wear metal foot guards (they dont have protiction on the pads, for theyre trained to withstand the pain) that sometime connect to the shin guards, cloth or metal mask that cover only the neck, mouth and nose and nightvision, vision enhacning goggles. They act mainly like stealth mercernaries, sometimes they are for hire
