The Garibaldi is a brightly colored orange fish of the damselfish family that is native to the North-Eastern subtropical parts of the Pacific Ocean.
It is protected in California waters from any commercial or recreational fishing. You may not take Garibaldis. However, it has not been classified as endangered.
Enemies of the damselfish include many different fish, like clownfish and grouper. Other enemies are jacks as well as cod and wrasses.
Garibaldi protect themselves by being territorial and aggressively defending their nesting sites. They have a bright orange coloration that warns potential predators of their toxicity. They also have a sharp spine on each gill cover that they can use for defense if threatened.
Pale damselfish was created in 2002.
Banded damselfish was created in 1825.
This is unconfirmed but a marine biologist friend told me that one of the co-founders of Home Depot liked the color of the orange Garibaldi Damselfish so much that he chose it as the company's signature color. Co-founder, Bernard Marcus, privately funded the building of the Georgia Aquarium and chose the Garibaldi as the Mascot.

In the wild, damselfish generally graze on algae covering reefs. If you are asking in order to figure out what to feed your pet fish... I'm not sure. Marine fish food. Small flakes or small pellets.
