The greatest elevation in the Transjordanian Highlands is Mount Hermon, which reaches an altitude of approximately 2,814 meters (9,232 feet) above sea level. This mountain is located at the border of Syria and Israel and is part of the Anti-Lebanon mountain range. It is a significant geographical feature in the region, known for its strategic importance and diverse ecosystems.
Transjordanian Highlands or just Transjordan
It is colder in the highlands than the lowlands because the higher the elevation, the colder it becomes, and the lower the elevation, the hotter.
elevation
At it's highest point, the Highlands are 266 ft in elevation. (The peak is technically a few yards over the western boarder of the Borough of Highlands in the adjacent town of Atlantic Highlands.) At the Eastern end of the ridge, where the famed Navesink Twin Lights sit, the elevation is approximately 183 ft (the lighthouse beacons are at 246 ft elevation). The "lower town" of the Borough of Highlands (the part of the town that runs N/NE of Shore Drive) is a 13 ft elevation according to the USGS. Differences in home prices and insurance costs between houses on the ridge in the "upper town" and those below in the "lower town" reflect the steep change in elevation, which impacts views and flood risk.
The highest peak in the Ethiopian highlands is Ras Dashen. At 4543 meters, it is the fourth highest mountain in Africa.
The highest community in Ontario is Foymount, in the Renfrew Highlands.
As elevation increases in highlands climate zones, temperature generally decreases. This is because air becomes less dense at higher elevations, leading to lower atmospheric pressure and reduced heat retention. As a result, highlands tend to have cooler temperatures compared to lowlands at the same latitude.
East. Minas Gerais state is considered to be the "Brazilian highlands"
A lowland between two highlands is called a valley. Valleys are typically characterized by their lower elevation compared to the surrounding highlands and are often formed by the natural erosion of water or ice over time.
The light-colored mountainous regions on the moon are called the lunar highlands. These areas are characterized by their rugged terrain, bright appearance, and higher elevation compared to the darker, smooth plains known as the lunar maria.
The climate in the Brazilian highlands is typically cooler than the lowlands, with temperatures varying depending on the elevation. It is generally characterized by mild temperatures, with cooler winters and warmer summers. Rainfall is also higher in the highlands compared to lower-lying areas.
The area with the greatest elevation difference is typically found in mountainous regions where there are significant changes in height between the highest and lowest points.
