The 1st of January, 1901 was the date of Federation when the Australian Colonies became the Commonwealth of Australia, a country in its own right.
As long as Australia's colonies were still colonies, they were under British rule. When the colonies federated, becoming states, they united as a single nation known as the Commonwealth of Australia, overseen by the federal government.
Australia's federation occurred on 1 January 1901. Prior to 1901, Australia was made up of six self-governing colonies; New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania. On 1 January 1901, federation of the colonies meant these colonies, or states, were joined under the name of the Commonwealth of Australia. Essentially, this meant the first step to Australia becoming independent of England, and the first step towards self-government. Australia's first Governor-General, John Hope, made the proclamation at Centennial Park in Sydney. Australia's first Prime Minister was Edmund Barton. Advantages of federation were freedom of trade and removal of tariffs on trade over state borders; better and more unified defence; and more uniform laws across Australia.
The committees were among the first groups to represent a unified colonial government, rather than the separate assemblies that operated under British rule. The colonies realized that successful responses to British actions were made easier by cooperative efforts.

Yes. It unified all of the colonies and untied them and they go along.
united, unified, unilateral, unjust (taxation)...
If Australia had never federated in 1901, it would likely remain a loose collection of separate colonies, each with its own government and policies, leading to significant regional differences. Economic coordination and infrastructure development may have been hindered, resulting in slower growth and potential trade barriers between colonies. The lack of a unified national identity could also affect social cohesion and political stability, potentially leaving Australia more vulnerable to foreign influence and intervention. Additionally, issues like immigration and Indigenous rights might be handled inconsistently across regions, leading to varied social outcomes.
Newfoundland, British North America(chiefly the Thirteen Colonies), Upper Canada(English Canada), Lower Canada(French Canada) and the Indian Reserve. The Indian Reserve was unified with the Province of Quebec(Lower Canada) in 1774 after the Quebec Act. Newfoundland was originally separate from the colonial region of Canada. It was unified with the Dominion of Canada in 1949 after the Newfoundland Act. Upper and Lower Canada were unified into the Province of Canada after the Act of Union 1840,
