The European Robin (also known as the Robin Red Breast) is the national bird of the United Kingdom.
In 1961 the British section for the international council of birds was tasked to select a title bearer, after a long correspondence in The Times newspaper they chose the Robin.
The Robins Red breast is really orange, but that word was a later arrival in the English language, until then the color had been deemed a shade of red, the Robins alternative name went unaffected.
Some quarters insist it is the Wren but this isn't correct, although that bird does feature in plenty of British folklore even described as the King of birds within that.
