Panama is basically divided by the Cordillera Central. This is a common name given to the whole of the chair, but it can be broken down into the Cordillera de Talamanca, wich is near the border of Costa Rica, the Serranía de Tabasará, which is more or less in the middle of the country, and the Sierra de Veraguas, through which the Panama Canal cuts.
