The feudal system was very helpful, this was just the way William dealt out land. The Domesday book was a survey, but not an ordinary survey, it stored information about different villages and how much tax they owed to the King. William, on the other hand, would go to villages, burn everything down and rape all of the female inhabitants. All in all William was not a perfect leader, but he was a good one at least.
