This "uniqueness" is relative. All countries in Latin America were once conquered by European powers whose language was rooted in ancient Latin, namely Spain, France and Portugal. Some of these nations include Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba and Haiti.
These countries have several common traits, but huge differences on both cultural and social terms; so every nation would be unique from each other.
Latin America can be as different as the British Commonwealth, whose only commonality is that these nations were once conquered and/or ruled by the British Empire. Some of them would include Canada, Australia, South Africa and Egypt, which are very unique on their own.

Actually even though technically French is a latin language those countries usually are not considered Latin American since they're so different in terms of languare, culture, history, races, economy, etc, that it makes no sence to group them with the rest. It doesn't. NAFTA is a trade treay between the United States and Mexico signed in 1988. Maquilidoras are factories in Mexico near the U.S. border. Mexican immigration is into the U.S. None of those things have anything at all to do with Europe, besides which, the *initial* relationship between Europe and Latin America was established during the Spanish conquests of the 16th century. Michael Montagne micheal can you tell that to my history teacher he doesn't seem to believe me i mean michael swry actually it does present a similar relationship. the Europeans used the Latin Americans as a labor force on their plantations. much like the way maquiladoras do and also maquiladoras are here because of NAFTA so it all makes sense.. well to me at least. -Zo
