There are three of them. The Sierra Madre Occidental runs from north to south from the Texas-Mexico border down to southern Mexico; the Sierra Madre Oriental is an extension of the Rocky Mountains, running along the Pacific Coast down to central Mexico. Finally, the Sierra Madre del Sur runs east-west along the southern portion of Mexico, on its Pacific Coast also.
The Continental Divide separates the Pacific and Atlantic watersheds in the main part of the United States. It runs along the top of the Rocky Mountains.
The Andes Mountains
The Pacific Coast Ranges run along the California coastline, parallel to the Pacific Ocean. These mountain ranges are part of the larger Pacific Mountain System that extends from Alaska to Mexico.
