However, the year is off. This occurred in 1956, not 1953. In 1969, Spain gave Morocco the Ifni region after mounting international pressure and UNGA Resolution 2072. Spain also withdrew from Western Sahara in 1975, after which it was promptly occupied by Morocco in what is known as the Green March.
