The Dome of the Rock (Arabic: مسجد قبة الصخرة , Masjid Qubbat Al-Sakhrati) in the Eastern part of Al-Quds (Jerusalem). It is a holy place in Islam.
Within it is a stone important in Islam for two reasons:
1) Abraham was ordered by God to sacrifice his son on it
2) Prophet Muhammad ascended to Heaven from it per the miracle that God supported prophet Muhammad with and is known as 'Al-Israa and Al-Mi'rag".

The Dome of the Rock is not to be confused with Masjid-Al-Aqsa as a lot of media portrays it to be. There is much controversy about the reasoning for this that predates thousands of years in history. The Masjid-Al-Aqsa is built on the previous Temple of Solomon. It is believed that the Prophet Soloman (Suleyman) buried several devil-worshiping books that included writing about black magic and states outside the human body. It is believed that the books were a source of power. This is the reason for the confusion. Making people think that the Dome of the Rock is Masjid-Al-Aqsa will shift the media attention away from the real Masjid-Al-Aqsa. The reason for this, is believed to be so they can gain access to the books that the Prophet Solomon (Suleyman) had buried to protect the people from the evil of the writing. Don't believe me about the media turning attention away from the real Masjid-Al-Aqsa? Type 'Masjid-Al-Aqsa' on Google Images and you'll find the majority of pictures are of the Dome of the Rock. There is much evidence that the Israeli government, has started 'construction' around the Mosque which could be a way of disguising the real actions of finding the buried books.
