The current issue Cape Verde banknotes are printed by De La Rue of England and have most of the modern security features;

* Embedded metallised security thread.

* Watermark of Amílcar Cabral (political activist).

* Multiple Colour Intaglio printing, giving the images a raised texture.

* Guilloché patterning, impossible to photocopy or photograph with any accuracy.

* Duplicate serial numbers on the obverse, one horizontal in black ink and one vertical in red ink. Each successive digit of the serial number is slightly larger.

Unusually, the obverse of the 200 Escudos note is in standard landscape format, but the back is portrait. This is not repeated on other CVE notes. Both faces of the 1999/2000 issue 2000 and 5000 Escudo notes are portrait, whilst the 500 and 1000 Escudos are normal landscape designs.
