Times Square is certainly quite popular and Manhattan is by far the most visited part of New York City. The Ripley's museum is really cool. If you're planning to visit Times Square - and you MUST - there are a lot of things to do right around there. There's Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and Discovery's Exhibitions that are always unique and worth a ay trip, or at least a half a day trip. Below is the link to buy tickets ahead if you decide to go to the Discovery exhibitions. NYC always has live concerts or conferences so if you're into music find out if anything special is going down during your visit. The Broadway is something you should experience. My kids loved the Spiderman show and the Discovery museum.

If you are visiting, I would suggest spending time doing tourist oriented things as well as things that someone who lives here would do. For example, the top of the rock, and Times Square are wonderful tourist destinations. In Times Square, you will find Broadway shows, and big stores such as the M&M store, the Hershey store, Toys R Us, and Macy's. The Toys R Us in Times Square is the store with the famous dinosaur (gigantic tyrannosaurus rex) and merry-go-round inside. Other places worth visiting are museums such as the met, MOMA (Museum of Modern Art), The Cooper Hewitt, The Guggenheim, Jewish Museum, and the Natural History Museum/Planetarium (one museum divided into 2 parts with 2 different entrances, but once you are inside, they connect to each other).

There are different places in Central Park such as the Belvedere Castle, Bethesda Terrace, the Ramble, the Central Park Zoo, the Boathouse, and other interesting places you'd be surprised to see. There are other attractions: Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center, the Empire State Building, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Trump Tower, and 5th avenue (very beautiful). There are also little cafes and bakeries worth visiting, such as H&H bagel shop on 79th and Broadway, Crumbs cupcakes (many different locations in Manhattan), there is also a fantastic French cafe called La Pain Quotidien on 494 Amsterdam Avenue at the corner of 84th street (there are also other locations). Columbus Circle is on 60th and Columbus--it is also a major attraction. The Time Warner Building is here (considered a mall by some, but not an actual mall). Lincoln Center is on 63rd and Columbus (also near a cluster of great cafes), so if you are planning to visit either the Columbus Circle or Lincoln Center. Columbus Circle is also the point where Columbus turns to meet 5th avenue/Central Park South. This is the area where The Plaza, Trump Tower, Glass Apple Store, FAO Schwarz, and St. Patrick's Cathedral are. St. Patrick's Cathedral is very near to the high-end designer stores. It is also somewhat close to Rockefeller Plaza and Saks Fifth Avenue (very nicely decorated during winter holiday season).

As for the museums-- The Met, Cooper Hewitt, Jewish Museum, Guggenheim, and Irish Museum are all located on what is considered "The Museum Mile". The Museum Mile is a section of 5th avenue that stretches from about 94th street to 79th street (on 5th avenue). In this area, you will also find vendors (from about 77th and 5th ave. until 79th and 5th ave.) who sell paintings and souvenirs that range (on average) from about $3-$20. On both 84th and 5th and 79th and 5th, you will find entrances to Central Park. By walking through here, you can get to Central Park West (first avenue on the west side).

If you wanted to shop, there are clothing stores almost everywhere. From about 78th and Columbus, there are wide varieties of bakeries, paper shops, furniture stores, clothing stores, and nail salons. From about 90th/89th and Madison there are many clothing boutiques. As mentioned earlier, many designer shops will start around the plaza/apple store (about 58th and Central Park South or 5th avenue). Stores such as H&M, Macy's, and Forever 21 are at about 34th and Lexington Avenue. SoHo (area downtown) is also a very fun area to shop in. Broadway and 72nd street also has a few nice shops.

to go to time square at new years eve and watch the fireworks and be with ur family all huddled up and theres some pretty good coffe houses there to feel better after all that cold so ya time square in new york at new years eve is the best thing to do.

If u have never been to the Ballet because u thought it would b boring or too expensive, please take this advice, u won't b sorry and neither was I. A friend suggested we go to the NYC ballet matinee on Saturday afternoon in Manhattan) I have only seen ballet on tv and thought kinda boring. (think humdrum Classical Music and people in pink leotards and white tutus. The NYC ballet was not like that. The music was beautiful and exotic. The costumes were as colorful as circus performers(but more tasteful) and they changed a lot as well as the scenery. It is a sensorama & i was enraptured. I got to see them "the four seasons" which is an amazing piece of music(I don't usually like most classical music but this music would suit anyone with good taste &a sense of rhythm) Here's the clincher : it was only $8, but its probably more like $15 now. Ask a new worker where and when to catch the sat nyc ballet,they know, or look in any local paper. I am now a lover of the ballet now that i've seen the modern version. Don't deprive urself of an amazing experience.
